Today, Nov. 4, I am grateful for family. My immediate and extended family played such an important role in my life. I cannot name everyone individually here, but please know I am grateful for each of you!
My parents have been married for 48 years. What an accomplishment! Like everyone, they are not perfect, but they made a commitment and have honored it. It has always been a point of pride for me that my parents stayed together though all types of adversity.
My parents also laid the groundwork for many of my other values: my dad is an incredibly hard worker. I don’t remember him staying home sick from work unless he had surgery or something major of that nature. My mom is extremely loyal to family and taught me that family is more important than anything else. They raised me in the church, which in my opinion laid the foundation for who I am today.
I have a wonderful sister who, despite being on the other side of the country, is always there when I need her and worked hard to help me avoid her mistakes. She listens without judgment and offers advice when needed, but doesn’t try to force me to follow her decision-making. She is accepting and understand of my flawed character!
I have wonderful family memories of holidays growing up. I miss Thanksgiving and Christmas with all of our family on my mom and dad’s sides. I remember little things about each one that played a role in who I am today, even those family I didn’t see much at all.
Family is so important, and I am so grateful to have had loved ones in my life who helped shape my past.
Will you join me in taking the #30DaysofThanks challenge? Each day from Nov. 1-30, write or share something for which you’re thankful with the hash tag #30DaysofThanks.
